Xubuntu Core – A lightweight version for very older PCs

1 min

Xubuntu team announced the availability of a new slimmed down version of Xubuntu – named Xubuntu Core (..and this has nothing to do with Snappy Ubuntu Core). This version can fit into a single 600mb CD and for those who have limited connectivity.

Due to minimal nature, this doesn’t come with office suite, media players etc. However you get the terminal though which is sufficient for users for installations.

How to Install

As per official Xubuntu blog, the recommended way is to download a mini iso and install it. Once installation finished run below command to install the Xubuntu Core.

Download Mini ISO
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-core^

If you don’t have internet connectivity during installation, you can download and install the ISO provided by a Xubuntu developer.
