Avidemux 2.7.6 Brings New Encoder/Decoder and Enhancements

The free and open source video editor, encoder Avidemux introduces new encoder/decoder in its new release version 2.7.6 and many improvements.

Avidemux is a free and open source non-linear video and audio editor used for simple filtering, cutting and encoding jobs. If you want a basic and lightweight video/audio editor, encoder for Linux, this the utility you should use. Along with the basic features, it has the ability to automate tasks using jobs and scripting. Avidemux supports popular file formats for editing e.g. AVI, DVD compatible MPEG files, MP4 and ASF.

Avidemux recently released version 2.7.6 with below changes.

What’s New in Avidemux 2.7.6

  • A new feature is introduced to detect and warn when cut points in HEVC video streams may result in grave playback issues despite being on keyframes.
  • New video decoder libaom-based AV1 and encoder libvpx-based VP9 is added.
  • New video filter added which adds hardware accelerated deinterlacer and resizer based on VA-API (Linux only)
  • Core updates includes FFmpeg 4.2.3 support, increased maximum supported resolution to 4096×4096, extend configuration options for NVENC-based H.264 and HEVC encoders, add 2-pass mode
  • Support of MPEG-TS files with duration in excess of 13:15:36 in Demuxer along with a fix in mono MP3 audio tracks in MP4 files misdetected as stereo.
  • Number of fixes done in the filter section which was broken across operating systems.

How to Install Avidemux in Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora

Avidemux is available as Flatpak package. You can setup Flatpak for your Linux distribution via this guide and then install using below link.

Alternatively, you can run below commands from terminal to install in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Linux Mint 20 and other Ubuntu derivatives:

sudo apt install flatpak
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
flatpak install flathub org.avidemux.Avidemux

Once installed, you can launch Avidemux from application menu.
